Polluted Heart

Polluted Heart

My husband and I were working on a worksheet titled, “Responding from the Heart to Love.”  One of the verses on the sheet was Proverbs 4:23, where King Solomon tells us that “Above all else, guard your heart, for it is the wellspring of life.”

Reflecting on this verse it occurred to me, we live in a society where our hearts are under constant attack.  At times, it seems like the assault comes from every direction.  It doesn’t matter your age, profession or nationality. Whether you are a believer of Jesus Christ or profess another religion; there is a continual onslaught against your heart. Without realizing it, unhealthy attitudes can creep into the crevices.

What exactly is your “heart?” A person’s heart is the core of who they are.  It is an intermix of hopes, dreams, passions and desires. And not only do these attributes live in the heart, but so does all the sin and guilt from our past.  Each of us not only determines what we let into our heart, but we establish where our heart lies. Do we live in the regrettable past or do we take Jesus at His word and “NOT let our hearts be troubled (distressed, agitated). But believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely on God; believe in and adhere to and trust in and rely also on Me?” (John 14:1 Amplified)

Do you mind? You are already this far into talking about your heart…can we look a bit closer? What is the condition of your heart? Looking back at King Solomon’s words, your heart is the wellspring of life. Wellspring by definition is, the source of a spring, stream or river. The heart is the source of who a person is!

Have you ever looked into a polluted river? There is nothing inviting about a river full of trash and contamination. In fact, if there is any living creature floating around, it is sick and dying. The same goes for your heart.

Scriptures records John the Baptist speaking to the Pharisees and Sadducees, “You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him.” How is that for being direct? John certainly doesn’t leave any question about what happens when a person’s heart is polluted. The gush coming from a polluted heart is wicked, bad, vicious and sinister; eventually leading to death.

1 Samuel 16:7 says, “The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” Dear one, nothing is hiding from our Abba Father.  He knows what secrets you are holding in your heart.  He has seen the hurt, feels your pain and shame. He knows the true condition of the heart.

Perhaps in taking a glance tonight, you observed some trash which has crept in. Or you may have known about it long before you clicked into this post.  Don’t lose heart dear one, Jesus cares for the hearts of people! He wants to see us FREE! (Remember we are to believe in, adhere to, trust in and rely on Him!) The scriptures give us clear directions on how to guard your heart and develop a proper heart attitude.  If you’ll join me tomorrow, I will be sharing verses to help clean out the impurities in your heart.

Ok SIS, this one really hits home for me…God has tenderized my heart from years of consequences and guilt. He can pull my heartstrings when I have know earthly clue as to why….He just does. Then and there I start praying….I don’t know who for or even what alot of the times…..but someone somewhere is in need and God sees, hears, and answers…even thru’ us, who are clueless,…. if we listen to the heart He tenderizes.
Keep sharing….He is using you in ways, this side of heaven, you will never know.
    Yeah God…..
