Listen

As an ENFP (Extraverted~ iNtuitive ~Feeling~ Perceiving) personality type, my world is constantly full of possibilities. I am energetic, enthusiastic and can’t bear to miss out on what is going on around me. As a communicator, I speak and write with the goal of revealing some truth about human experience, or in hopes of motivating and empowering others. I have a strong drive to speak out on issues and events (no surprise to those who know me!).  I love life, seeing it as a special gift, and strive to make the most out of it.

In the last few months, as I learned more about my personality type and what makes me “tick,” God gently revealed an area that needs my attention.  Not only to deepen my relationship with Him, but those has He entrusted to me.

…..“Listen”

I have never been given a word for the year; it has always been a scripture verse. 2013 is the first year which I receive a word first. Since 2006, God and I have been working with a particular scripture theme for the year.  However, God revealed during the last few months that this year there would be a theme word with a scripture reference.  (I think He is trying to get my attention on this matter.  What do you think?)

…….“Listen”

As part of the CWA Review Crew, I read More Questions than Answers, by Eleanor Shepherd.  In the course of this reading, I felt the all too familiar “Holy Spirit Thump.”   We have already established the gift I have to gab.  But the gift of listening….well, not so much! Interesting how it appears that the gift of communication is more about listening than about speaking and writing!

In December, through a quick status update on Facebook from a lifelong friend, the Holy Spirit once again dropped “listen” into my spirit. (Don’t tell me that God doesn’t use social media.) I recognized then God was revealing to me an area where He wanted my attention.  My. Full. Attention!  To not only listen to him, but listen to the heart cries of those He brings into my world.

In doing some research, I found on BibleGateway.com the word “listen” is referenced 5165 times in the bible.  Do you think God feels listening is important? (The answer here is yes!)

So, with my 2013 word in my heart, I sought out the verse.  Finally, I believe this to be the verse:
” I will listen [with expectancy] to what God the Lord will say, for He will speak peace to His people, to His saints (those who are in right standing with Him)—but let them not turn again to [self-confident] folly.” Psalms 85:8 (Amplified)

As January 2013 gets underway, this ENFP is trying to contain my energy, quiet my heart and earnestly “Listen.”

Have you picked out a verse for the New Year? Do you have a “word” theme for 2013?  I would love for you to share them with me.
